Scallys Supervalu in Clonakilty saw a whole new range of locally produced in-store foods becoming available to consumers in West Cork on Saturday last.
In conjunction with the ‘Local Heroes’ initiative, Scally’s own locally produced “Fishpini”, an original and fresh fish sausage, is being introduced as a novel and tasty way of introducing fish to your family.
Scally’s ‘Local Hero’ was on hand on Saturday, along with Chef Stephen Baker, to show everyone – especially the kids – how to prepare the sausages. Scally’s had also prepared a feast of tastings for all to enjoy from their own range of Scally’s locally produced fare.
“Lots of children don’t like fish and Scally’s new recipe is sure to get your family tucking into these tasty seafood morsels,” said Eugene Scally. “Eating nutritional foods is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure the health of your family and fish plays an important role in this balance. Fish is low in fat, rich in minerals and an excellent source of protein, which is crucial for growing bones and muscles and immune systems needs.”
Fishpini has been specially created with kids in mind by Scally’s Chef, Stephen Baker, and his team and takes its name from it’s main ingredient Fish and the irish for Sausages “ispini”.
Stephen also has plans to develop a fresh fish sausage recipe and fresh tuna burger with herbs and spices to cater to the more discerning adult palate. Stephen is well known in the West Cork region and has extensive experience in the restaurant business. Since he joined Scally’s, Stephen has been pivotal in the development of Scally’s own range, which grows in popularity daily.
The wide variety of locally produced, Scally’s label range, now includes a fantastic selection of home made soups, including tomato and basil, carrot and coriander and seafood chowder and fish stock, chicken stock and beef stock is also available. Scally’s ethos of supporting the locality has been a true boost to the community. The ‘Super Heroes’ initiative has been a resounding success, providing much needed funds for local schools.
